Specialty chemicals expert Clariant announces the launch of its new EcoTain label to support the cosmetic and personal care industry’s commitment to choosing greener products and formulation concepts.

Elsewhere, in the last eighteen months, Clariant has started up a total of seven bi- and tri-layer blowmolding machines at facilities in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, China, Indonesia, Thailand and France.

With multilayer extrusion blowmolding, packagers can keep costs down by incorporating sometimes-expensive color and effects in the relatively thin surface layer of the bottle, while up to 85% of the total weight of the container can be made up of a comparatively inexpensive color system. Regrind and post-consumer recycled material can also be used in hidden, inner layers. Multilayer blowmolding can be used to achieve unique surface effects. For instance, by adding a thin, semi-transparent pearlescent material to a solid-color base layer, designers can achieve a soft, shimmering effect. Or, a high-gloss layer can create a brilliant reflectivity when combined with an opaque base layer.

Clariant packaging specialists are well-versed in the latest multilayer plastics processing techniques. Not only are they able to assist package developers in design and color selection, but they can work with blowmolding companies to ensure that mechanical and appearance specifications are met while cycle times are kept to a minimum.
